As we enter a new year, many people will be setting their resolutions — and at The Carbon Closet, we think there’s one that should be at the top of your list:
to live more sustainably.
Why? Because we don’t have any other choice. From food waste to textile pollution, from the climate crisis to carbon emissions, overflowing wastelands and contaminated waterways — each crisis is connected. Taking action to bring our planet back to health needs to happen now.
As overwhelming as it may sound, there are plenty of small, daily actions you can take that will benefit both yourself and the planet in the long run.
We are more than just a sustainable fashion platform — we care.
That’s why we’re here to support you on your journey towards sustainable living. Here are 10 small steps you can take for greener resolutions and a more sustainable lifestyle in 2026.
1) Walk more
It really is as simple as it sounds. Ditch the car — or even the bus. If a journey is walkable, why not give yourself (and the planet!) some fresh air? Bonus points if another of your resolutions is to exercise more. To help you on your way, here are some of The Carbon Closet’s recommended sneakers to keep you stepping in comfort, style, and sustainability.
2) Eat greener
We aren’t suggesting you become a dedicated vegan overnight, but the meat industry is water-intensive, emits large quantities of greenhouse gases, and often involves unethical practices towards animals. By buying food locally, you can also reduce food miles and support nearby farmers and businesses. Explore some reusable lunchboxes for your delicious 2026 veggie meals.
3) Shop second-hand
One easy way to cut costs is by buying items second-hand. Charity shops often see an influx of donations after Christmas, and online marketplaces make pre-loved shopping easier than ever. Platforms like eBay, Vinted, ThredUp, and Depop are great alternatives — not only for buying, but for preventing items with plenty of life left from ending up in landfill.
4) Volunteer
Not only will your community thank you, but volunteering can help you build friends and connections, ditch your sofas and phones, and allow you to give back to the environment. Check your local area for conservation projects like planting trees or keep our waters clean. And if you’re getting stuck-in in the winter, here are some conscious coats to keep you cozy!
5) Do less laundry
Not only will this save you an extra chore, but with every wash, microplastics are released from your clothes into our environment — and each wash shortens your clothing’s lifespan. By choosing bio-based materials, you can reduce microplastic pollution (explore our organic cotton tees here), but better yet — why not skip the wash for just one more day.
6) Buy items built to last
So many fast-fashion items, as we’re sure you have noticed, are flimsy, cheap and fall apart after only a few wears. By buying quality items that are made to withstand, you’re saving another item from entering landfill, and saving you money in the process! Here are some quality jeans from our website that will not only last, but can be taken back in store for repairs and restoration! Circular fashion is the way to go!
7) Reduce the heat
Many people have clocked onto this already for money saving purposes, but you will be doing the planet a favour in the process. Less heat and energy used means less fuel burn, less air pollution produced, and less fossil fuels mined. We understand this is harder to do in the colder months so here are some of our snuggest sweatshirts to keep you that little warmer!
8) Brush greener
It’s something we do every day — twice a day. But did you know that every plastic toothbrush you’ve ever used still exists somewhere on the planet? Switch to a biodegradable alternative with charcoal bristles, which are known for their antibacterial properties, and you've just integrated a sustainable practise into your daily routine- it really is that easy! Don’t forget to turn the tap off while brushing!
9) Always be prepared
So often, we pack lightly and think to ourselves ‘I’ll just buy this whilst I’m out”. But this mindset is costing you on every trip and promotes over-consumption. By being prepared for the places you go, you save on time, money and reduce unnecessary waste. Here are some big bags that will hold all you’d possibly need. Why not treat yourself to a new water bottle or coffee cup whilst you’re at it!
10) Educate yourself
Arguably, the biggest barrier to sustainable living is a lack of understanding. The health of our planet isn’t a side issue — it’s fundamental to life itself. How often have you heard someone say, “I’d go vegetarian, but I love meat too much”? Education empowers better choices for you, the planet, and those around you.
